Ok I posted this not too long ago and the link was not working. So here it is. For those who are history freaks.

http://www.co.cameron.tx.us/commissioner/whatisit.html

I need to know what this is or waht it was used for. All I know is that it was made around 1949, its about 4-5ft tall, really heavy, and the brown part is wood while the top and bottom is metal.

It may be a weapo cuz it looks like a huge bullet. If you know exactly what this is, then let me know please. Thanks!

It looks like a mast or pillar made of wood, might be for a ship or a small boat, The drawing shows that it is in an upright position and the base is so that it has to stand in a vertical position.

Also the drawing looks like something that can be asociated with sailors and ships.

But then this is only a guess. Good luck and let me know what it is when you do find out.

Is the item soild or hollow?
If it's a solid piece of wood, to me it looks like it's a battering ram.

A battering ram is a heavy metal or wooden beam used by firefighters and law enforcement officers to break down walls and doors.
If the ram is made of wood the ends are bound in metal to increase strength and prevent the wood splitting.

Good luck with which ever answer you choose.

You might want to consider Texas history with this item. You state that it is circa 1948 - but is it really? Looks like an artillery piece from the Mexican wars.
Absent that - I'd go with an artillery shell - WWII vintage.
Weird.
Please let us know when you find out.

To me it looks like an artillery shell casing from WW1 or WW2.
