Isn't the war in the Middle East because American's want to keep driving their SUV's? Bush and his cronies want to control oil from the Middle East because of America's insatiable need to fuel their excesses, the SUV being one of them.

If only it were that simple!
Americans want to drive SUVs and they don't want the mess of drilling for oil in their own territory. And its not just SUVs either; there are all the plastics, natural gas, and other petroleum products we are used to having.
Still, even if we were to live without getting oil from the Middle East, that would not make us safe. We have already been attacked by foreign enemy, and it wasn't because of oil. Retreating to within our own borders will not keep it from happening again. In fact, such an action would only encourage our enemies to attack with more confidence.

Thats not really a choice....driving our SUVs will lead to war in the middle east. And since the oil companies own our government and our president, at least as long as Cowboy George is in power, war in the middle east will continue to be our best option. Dems in '08 will fix it. Hillary will take a more conversational approach to doing things and will help to push us off of our need for foreign oil. The current administration has simply forgotten about the age old tactic of diplomacy and we go right for military and economic means to try and scare people into doing what we want. As the rest of the world becomes nuclearized, this will jsut get us into more and more problems. We need to take a diplomatic approach to these issues and I think that, for all their personal drama, the Clintons are best suited to that task.

Actually, you can't really compare the two. The one has nothing to do with the other. Maybe a better comparison would be:
Which would Americans prefer:
-Keep driving their SUVs, or
-Die from the massively devastating effects of global warming?
I'm sure THAT will get people's attention...

you would extra positive revise that one somewhat. first of all, those aggressive wars contained in the middle East were began through Bush, a Republican. also the Patriot act changed into created through a Republican administration. Even now, the Republican applicants are beating the conflict drums desirous to attack Iraq and Syria. And yea, all of us recognize properly about bodies coming living house in luggage. We lost one among our own a lot loved relatives in Iraq. it really is the reason i visit not in any respect vote for yet another Republican. They lied to get us right into a conflict they needed lengthy before the tragedy of 911. Obama is between the few that voted hostile to the conflict in Iraq and he's bringing human beings living house and a minimum of has a date to leave Afganistan. Bush and Cheney needed us there always very reminiscent of the quagmire of Viet Nam.

They want both. The "suburbanite" soccer Mom's driving their "security" vehicles aren't sending their kids to war, remember. It's always someone else making the sacrifice for them. Their biggest sacrifice is buying the $1.99 yellow ribbon magnet made in China and sticking it to the back of their vehicle.
That's why we ought to bring the draft back. All these people who are insulated from the real world would have to think about all their decisions, i.e. buying that SUV means that someone (perhaps even their child) has to fight for that oil.
Very cynical answer, but it's the truth.

Seems to me the answer is one and the same...a lot of us don't want to give up creature comforts and are willing to send our troops into some God-forsaken sand-trap in order to ensure our supply of oil (or "crude-addiction", if you will).
My-o-my, we've become so complacent, compared to the "greatest generation" - the Americans of World War Two made tremendous sacrifices to support a just war.
What are we giving up?
Well, that is a topic for another time.
