He can apply for disability but that may take a while to come through. There are no charities that pay medical bills. He can apply for Medicaid since he has no income. Some hospitals will write off bills to charity if a person has no income. You might be able to find some charities that will temporarily pay a utility bill or provide food from their food pantry but no one provides income for being sick and out of work. Families and friends may want to organize a fund raiser to help out.

He should have been admitted to the hospital as a charity case so that most of the cost was a write-off. Check with the hospital to see if he can be designated as such or if it is too late. In any event, make payment arrangements with the hospital if you are not able to get him in as a charity case. $10/month, $20/month, whatever he can afford. They will accept something rather than nothing at all.

There is something out here that can help him.I don't know what part of the country your from.I know a lady here (maryland) that had the same thing happen to her and the hospital started her out by getting the department of social services the information they needed for a medical card. After that she was eligible for SSI.

Contact the Social Service Dept. of the hospital where he was a patient and find out why they didn't jump on this at time of his admission!

If you don't get immediate help, contact the JCHA.
