Is it true that if you take Midol with Diet Coke that it can actually help your cramps go away better than just the Midol alone? I heard this myth a while ago and I'm just wondering. Are there any variations on this? It seems too good to be true, and you know what they say about things like that! If anyone can give me proof, details, variations, etc. that would be best. I'm just wondering. Thnx!!!

AndyK, I've actually heard of that one, but I'm saving myself until marrage (tmi?). H-man you make a great point, your suggestion I will try along with Fyre's.

It is the caffeine in the coke. It can help for the short term. There is caffeine in Midol, too. The caffeine increases the pain relieving effects of acetaminophen. Caffeine is also a mild diuretic, so it can help ease bloating and breast pain.

I would be inclined to think not. Just about every single thing you hear that says:

"Something" + "Diet Coke" = "Startling and unexpected result"

is BS. Like the pop rocks and diet coke exploding your stomach deal:) However. Diet Coke does contain caffeine, which is an ingredient in Midol. Caffeine is one of those weird things that makes some women's menstrual symptoms better and others worse, so if you are one of the lucky ones (or just a caffeine junkie) the higher dose might make you feel better.

I can't see how it would be harmful, so you could certainly give it a try and see if it works for you.

Fyre's probably right: Prescription Strength Midol might be even better (idk never took it!). My solution would be a little different. I know U don't feel like it right now (LOL), but having sex would also help relieve the cramps. The thing is, if U do it right, U can take the OTC Midol, drink it down with a Diet Coke, make love (because you're feeling better) & then feel really good from that glow all over! ;-)

Have a great weekend!!!

Have you tried this old myth, yet?
I did this back in the 60s,
diet Coke didn't exist but Tab did,
I had so many bubbles almost frothy,
I thought someone had added
bubblebath to the mixture.
I spent 15 minutes in the restroom
trying to get rid of the bubbles.
This stuff bubbled out of my nose,
my mouth, I swear,
I think it even bubbled out of my eyes.
I know I must have looked like,
I had rabies when I ran down the hallway,
trying to make it into the junior varsity
girl's restroom. I rinsed my mouth
out with water for what seemed to be forever.
I know it's the double deluxe version
of caffein that is supposed to get
rid of the pain, but I also learned
just plain water or tea & a Midol
had the same effect.
Other combinations NOT to take
together because of the bubble effect:
1. BC Powder & anything carbonated
2. Goody Powder & anything carbonated
#2 was the worse!
I took this & drank a Diet Rite Soda.
I bubbled & frothed so much that
I thought I was going to drown.

Look on the ingredients
of the Over the Counter
medication.
If the words, "bicarbonate or bicarbonate of sodium" appear on the package
ANYWHERE,
Do not, I really mean do not take this
with any type of soda that is carbonated,
because the stuff will do the
FIZZIES inside your mouth.
And it is not pleasant.

No, it's BS and if you THINK it's true then there might be a placebo effect but, trust me, the only thing that works better than Midol is PRESCRIPTION STRENGTH MIDOL! I actually got a prescription from my doctor for some heavy duty stuff for those heavy duty days.

I can't see you harming yourself and if it works go for it.
In many cases there is that psychological thing, that when your mind says this works well, it does.

You could always research alternative medicines.
