to find the intercepts you plug in zero for each variable (separately) and the resulting out come is the corresponding intercept. follow :
lets say x=0 (this will be the the y intercept)

r(x) = (0+8)/(0+25) = 8/25 , there for 8/25 is the y intercept

now lets say y=0 (this will be the x intercept)

0=(x^3+8)/(x^2+25)
multiplying each side of the equation by (x^2+25) results in:
x^3 -8 = 0
x^3 = 8
x=2

r(x)=(x^3+8)/(x^2+25)
x-intercept: ( -2, 0)
y-intercept: (0, 8/25)
-----------
Ideas: Plug in y = 0 to get x-intercept and plug in x = 0 to get y-intercept.

x-intercept is (-2,0) x= -2 makes r(x) = 0
y-intercept is (0, 8/25) = (0, 0.32) x= 0 makes r(x) = 8/25
