you need to get out more.
i've worked with various pigs, monkeys, chickens, hawks, doves, lemmings, sheep, snowbirds, etc
on my uncles farm the plow horse, dairy cows and the rooster always seem to be working

Well they don't have careers because they don't need to buy things because they don't have money.
But they do have jobs - for example in a pack of wolves or pride of lions each member will have job, like hunting, nurturing offspring etc. They have the equivilent, they just don't earn money
I'd say they have responsibilty, many in a unit such as herd, will look after eachothers offspring too. They just don't need to earn currency, they just go hunt for food for their kids!
Some species are more intellegent & some seem to show more emotions - that's all to do with the theory of evolution!

some do have careers police dogs,guard dogs,Blind help dogs,Carriage puller horses,Tester animals (although I don't agree with it) Dolphins who you know have fun with those people in fun centers. and many more!(but they don't get payed there owners do but what can they do with money huh?
