Some people have always really been more obsessed about themselves and those close to them, we just here more about the more ridiculous tales from the constant barrage or 24/7 news and reality type shows.

I do not think that people are more self absorbed overall, but we hear about the ones who are more.

The media.
Look to the mags in the grocery store when you are in line. Look at the books that are number one sellers. Look at the television ads, the magazine ads, the newspaper ads, listen to the radio ads.

Only some people. We still have great people on earth who make living that little bit easier. Self-obsessed people are best avoided - I have learned that from someone I used to think was my friend.

Because we have talk shows that discuss our problems, and our society is in the habit of discussing or exchanging whatever problem we are having. When people were all struggling back in the depression days, my mom said no one ever complained, because everyone was in bad shape.

Our focus is on shallow things. We have forgotten what is really important. People who are self-absorbed are the most miserable, boring people on this planet.

Everything today is me me me, look at the world around us, everything tells us to grab and get all we can, every new thing that comes out we have to have it, that takes money, that makes us greedy, we forgotten that materials things don't last long, how many funerals have you been to where the person took their posessions with them. None. We can't take it with us, so we need to slow down and smell the roses.
