I own a Ford Escort and someone before me put E-10 and it started acting up. It seems to have a loss of power at times and does not speed up very well. How do I fix it?

Actually, almost all gasoline sold has 10% ethanol in it. When you see the label on the pump that states that the gasoline is 'oxygenated' to reduce emissions, they are referring to the ethanol added to it. It was originally added to help 'trick' carbuerated motors run cleaner, but since virtually all vehicles nowadays are fuel-injected, that benefit has been largely negated.

All modern vehicles designed to run on gasoline can run fuel with up to 15% ethanol with no problems. If you were to fill up with E85 ethanol (85% ethanol, 15% gas, which is what I suspect you are talking about), then you could have problems. you will need to have the E85 flushed from your fuel system, and filled up with regular gasoline. Your motor will not blow up, but it can incur nasty damage, since ethanol corrodes rubber and some metals. it can also cause your fuel pump to quit working, since ethanol conducts electricity (unlike gasoline), and the electric pump could short out (don't worry, this is not an explosion risk, either). Have the car checked out by a reputable mechanic.

You might want to have mentioned how old the car is. New cars can handle most combinations of ethanol and gasoline (as far as I know), but older cars might be a bit more tricky. Then again I have a '77 Chevy Impala and when I was in Kansas I put in E-10 all the time at Casey's. It was a little cheaper/same price, and it seemed to work just fine if not better. I'm guessing it is something besides the fuel, unless Fords can't handle the ethanol for whatever reason. Either way I sort of am biased, but think Fords suck.

E-10 is 10% ethanol, which is fine to run in any car! If the car does not run as well on E-10, all you need to do is fill the tank again with non ethanol added fuel, and the problem, if actually caused by the fuel, will solve itself!

You keep on filling it up with unleaded fuel so it dilutes the E-10.

take it to your mechanic and have him clean the fuel lines out.
then have him clean the fuel system and the fuel pump and fuel filter.
Hopefully this will fix the problem of the retard who put E-10 in the car before you.

Now, this will only help if the fuel is the problem, it may be because it's a Ford :D
