I got to meet him in the 70's and found him to be very nice and when My Mother passed away one of the songs sang at her funeral was one that he wrote and recorded titled "Over The Next Hill"" I wrote him a letter and thanked him for the song and told him that it was played at my Mothers funeral and he responded by sending me a nice letter back along with an 8x10 autographed photo and said he was glad that one of his songs had special meaning. Very nice man and is still very much loved and missed.

I won two tickets to see The Highwaymen at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City off of a Philadelphia Radio Station WXTU. It was the first time I ever went to Atlantic City and my wife begged me not to take the last few hundred we had (it was to be used to pay the phone bill). I told her that I am not the gambling type and that I won't spend it all. About 3 hours after getting there I was broke. We were going to pawn the tickets off because they were great seats and we could have gotten a few hundred for them. Thank God we didn't sell them because the concert was phenomenal.

When I was a kid I would play the Folsom Prison Album over and over again. I loved the whole thing...Dirty Old Egg Sucking Hound, 25 Minutes to Go, Cocaine Blues. I was like 8 years old belting them all out. I used to stand on the hearth of our fireplace and put on a nice show for my stuffed animals...singing about how I shot my woman down. I can't imagine what my mom must have thought.

never got the chance to meet him face to face but one of my celeb friends called him one time for me and i did have a loooong conversation with him and daughter on the phone, i will cherise that moment forever!
