Ms. Brunner notified the group two weeks ago that the petitions submitted by the clubs and their dancers were about 60,000 signatures shy of the 241,366 minimum needed to keep the referendum on the Nov. 6 ballot.

The law passed the General Assembly with bipartisan support, and Gov. Ted Strickland allowed it to become law without his signature. It officially went into effect when Ms. Brunner sent final notice the petition effort had failed.

The law forces strip clubs, adult and video bookstores, X-rated theaters, and other "sexually oriented businesses" to close between midnight and 6 a.m. with the exception of those with liquor licenses allowing them to stay open until 2 a.m. In the latter case, there can be no fully nude performances during those extra two hours.

The law also increases criminal penalties if a fully nude performer or an audience member touches the other.

Strip club owners went to court Wednesday to block a new law that prohibits patrons from touching dancers and puts other restrictions on adult business operations.

Club operators filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Cleveland asking a judge to issue a restraining order, saying the law was unconstitutionally vague and suppresses the right of free expression. A judge may rule as early as Thursday.

The new restrictions include a ban on dancers touching patrons or each other and a prohibition of nude dancing in clubs after midnight. Clubs whose liquor licenses allow them to stay open after midnight may continue to do so, but nude dancing after that hour will not be allowed.

they took it off the ballots so I think it's in effect until they vote otherwise, but I have herd different things.

I'm not paying $7 to get in and then have to buy two beers at $3.50 a piece just for chicks who aren't naked.

no offense jury doc but the Blade sucks, just thought I would put that out there.

I'm glad I live on the Ohio/Michigan border, if I want to visit that type of place I will just go over the border to Alcatraz.
