I woke up this morning to my parents screaming about an email from cox saying our internet's going to be cut off, and when they left for work they told me everything better be fixed before they get back, but I don't understand exactly what they want, the second thing confuses me the most.. the thing said I needed-

(a) a physical or electronic signature of the subscriber;
(b) identification of the material that has been removed or to which access has been disabled and the location at which the material appeared before it was removed or disabled;
(c) a statement under penalty of perjury that the subscriber has a good faith belief that the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification of the material to be removed or disabled;
(d) the subscriber’s name, address, and telephone number and a statement that the subscriber consents to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for the judicial district in which the address is located.

Heres more of the email-

We are writing on behalf of Cox Communications to advise you that we have received a notification that you are using your Cox High Speed Internet service to post or transmit material that infringes the copyrights of a complainant's members. We have included a copy of the complaint letter. Pursuant to the provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA"), which is codified at 17 U.S.C. § 512, upon receiving such notification, Cox is required to "act expeditiously to remove, or disable access to" the infringing material in order to avoid liability for any alleged copyright infringement. Accordingly, Cox will suspend your account and disable your connection to the Internet within 24 hours of your receipt of this email if the offending material is not removed.

It's only a little legalese. Here's a translation:
"We caught you downloading illegal stuff from the internet. In order to avoid a lawsuit, you need to do the following things:
a) Give us your signature
b) Admit that someone used your internet to download illegal stuff, and tell us what it was that you downloaded, so we can confirm it (disclose everything)
c) Tell us that you've deleted the illegal stuff (don't lie)
d) Give us the details of the person who downloaded the stuff, and get them to write a letter apologising for breaking the law, and promise that they will never do it again"

The letter is addressed to the subscriber, which would probably be your dad. The person it talks about in part D would be you.

It seems you have been identified as having violated a policy protecting a copyrighted material.

This seems serious. I would try to get a hold of a supervisor/ manager from the ISP to sorten things out. Fast! Before things get thick.

Try to remember what happened over the last few days. Sites you were surfing, stuff you were downloading... and get the facts straight. Good luck!

oops! looks like you've incurred the wrath of the nonsensical internet police. what you've included here doesn't shed light on much. seems like they are looking for some missing content from somewhere. maybe you didn't read the whole notice properly. what you have here seems taken out of context...
