My son is 6 weeks old and loves to eat! He is eating usually 4 ounces every 2 hours at night and 3 1/2 - 4 ounces during the day. Lately during the day hes not making it the 2 hours and wants to eat after an hour and a half. He takes forever to eat, so by the time hes done, he takes a little nap and is hungry again in 30 minutes. Im not sure what to do..should I try to make him eat more at one time? Or should I just roll with what hes doing? Hes always hungry (hes a chub-chub lol) Ive also recently switched formula because he is very very gassy. Hes now on Enfamil for fussy and gassy babies. How long should I give it to see if its okay for him? If you have a gassy baby that spits up, what formula worked for you? Thanks everyone :)

Common times for growth spurts are during the first few days at home and around 7-10 days, 2-3 weeks, 4-6 weeks, 3 months, 4 months, 6 months and 9 months (more or less). This is true for all babies - breast or formula fed, they're usually preparing for an upcoming body increase or trying to get more to meet their new needs because they already grew!!

Often we can tell by how their clothes fit... I breastfed, but whenever my daughter wanted to eat more frequently or nurse for longer... within days I could tell that the new load of clean laundry fit her more snugly than it had a week or two ago (we're slow on laundry at my house).

best to roll with it... maybe increasing frequency &/or amount per feed... or pick one and see what makes him happier!! All babies are best fed on demand... they know what their bodies need and it's up to us to read their minds/bodies!!

He's going through the normal 6 week growth spurt. Growth spurts happen typically at 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months. Babies will often feed sooner. Every 2 hours is exactly right. Just so you know, formula makes babies gassier than breastmilk so you may have a larger issue. Milicon Gas Relief drops always work well though. Best wishes.

At this age, he determines how hungry he is and when. Roll with it.

My second was a big spitter...burping was essential, and even then...we tried several different formulas, but wound up going back to Good Start (he even puked breastmilk when he was exclusively on that).

Doc said puking does not have to mean reflux...some babies are just pukers...as long as he's gaining, it's not an issue.

We call ours 'chub-chub' too. :) He's now 16 mos and a very muscly 27.5 lbs...the only chub left on him is on both sets of cheeks.

Breastfed babies have growth spurts at around 6 weeks so I assume formula fed babies do too. I'd try giving him a little more at each feeding and see if it holds him over longer.

Growth spurt. Usually every 3 6 and 12 weeks you he'll have one. He'll eat much more during those times.

Sounds about right!
