I think the "baggage" would warrant further investigation before thinking about signing a longterm deal worth that much money plus giving up prime prospects and/or veterans. I read the Marlins want three high level low cost players for Cabrera. I seriously don't know. With Arod's poor performances in the postseason I might lean more towards Cabrera but then again, Arod may create new baseball history so it'd be a toss up. Cabrera's weight (ala Bartolo Colon) would also be a concern. And yes, I know Colon is a pitcher but weight could also negatively impact a position player as well.

I would say no..
I agree with the above poster that he doesn't stay in shape... and I saw him boot a bunch of balls at 3rd last year.
Without a doubt he will get a hefty contract. I mean look what teams are paying these players nowadays... no wonder it costs so much to go to the game!
TC I believe he plays both OF and 3B... but I don't follow him that closely so I can't say for sure.. I just remember him I think playing SF this year booting balls at 3rd.

NO ONE deserves that type of a contract, not A-Rod, not Cabrera, not even Mickey Mouse! That sort of money is ridiculous. These dudes haven't won crap, but yet they want to make more than what 1000 soldiers combined make in Iraq, what a joke. Do something positive for our country or at least be a team player and maybe half of that would be worth it, but come on, they haven't helped out communities by teaching our children or buliding schools. Only a few guys come to mind that deserve those sorts of numbers: MJ, Tiger Woods, Tim Duncan & Peyton Manning. They are all influential figures that have donated or helped out their respective communities with not only money but their own time. Don't patronize players who think their value is more what they are worth, when they haven't even done much for society itself!

Firstly, Miguel Cabrera plays 3rd base, not LF
Second, He's been to the postseason ONCE
Third, HELL NO because nobody deserves that money
Fourth, Arod deserves more because he can also field and run, not just hit and shake his fat *** around the basepath

I would agree with the people before me but I think it isB. because it is probably true that younger players have a more upside then older players.

those choices suck but
Miguel doesn't deserve more than Alex.
Miggie has only appeared once in postseason.
Alex does suck also
I predict arod signs a 8 years/ 264 million dollar deal
Miguel goes 4 years/ 56 million i guess, with angels or yankees
probably the angels, the yankees won't rid themselves of top prospects.

G. No one is worth that kind of money not even A-Rod. It gets harder and harder every year to go to any games due to the costs.
