I will installing a tub surround in a few weeks, but there is a problem. The existing tile rises 58" from the tub edge to the top, which is not the problem. The depth is 28" from the front edge to the corner, which is also not the problem. The problem is that the tile on the sides spills over the tub edge to the floor, sticking out from the tub about 3" on the wall.
The kit I am buying is only 58" tall and it will cover the height as well as the depth with no problem, but how do I cover that 3" x 13" area of extra tile? Do they sell kits that match the tub surround for covering such spots?

Perhaps it's just early and my confusion makes me seem ignorant? I've remodeled a bunch of bathrooms in my time.

Tile on the Sides??? Is there currently Tile on the walls encompassing the tub? Spills over the tub edge to the flooring??? Then Sticks out from the tub 3 inches? Is this at the base of / face of the tub??? 3 x 13??? That's a bit confusing as well. Perhaps envisioning this might be helped by including some pics?

Certainly you can buy sheets of Vinyl/Pvc; often used rather than MOLDED tub surrounds; and use contacting adhesive similar to that used to install molded tub surrounds.

A curious question (no offense) I'd be interested in knowing what this all looks like.

I would recommend removing the tile and just sand that area smooth, prime and paint with a good mold resistant bathroom paint and caulk the joint of the wall to the tub. You could check for a small piece of material similiar to the tub surround...don't think they sell such a thing though or you might have to buy a replacement side panel to cut out a section to fit.

You should remove the old tile.
