Now I understand! They are old and live in rolling recreational vehicles that get 7 miles to the gallon, so they have no interest in seeing gasoline prices rise until after they're gone. But we could ALL be gone by then.

[ Rep. Bob Inglis (R-S.C.), once a skeptic of global warming, got a hint that the political winds might be shifting when a longtime supporter warned that he might vote against Inglis if he “didn’t clean up his act on the environment.”...The warning came from Inglis’ eldest son, Robert Jr., now 22...Family pressure worked. Inglis traveled to Antarctica and, most recently, to Greenland to witness the effects of rising CO2 levels and temperatures. He now believes the science behind global warming...
You wouldn’t know it from listening to President Bush or most GOP congressional leaders, but a lot of smart Republican thinkers are coming to the same conclusion as Inglis. ]

Re nobody is denying global warming...from the article:
[ Republicans are split in three camps: a small but vocal group who think global warming is basically a hoax (26 percent of GOP voters in the Ayres poll said it does not exist); a big group that includes GOP presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani who agree the Earth is warming but are reluctant to embrace plans opposed by business or viewed as burdensome government regulation; and a growing number who are pushing for specific, market-based solutions now....The latter group is on the rise. ]

Re Bill H's question: the previous cycles were natural cycles, two of the three long before human civilization (if I remember the dates correctly). The difference now is the amount of unnatural greenhouse gasses we put into the atmosphere are making the natural cycle totally unbalanced. "...we're dumping more than 70 million tons of global-warming pollution into the thin shell of atmosphere every twenty-four hours," (Al Gore, Rolling Stone, Issue 1039, Nov 15, 2007, page 55)

There's a lot of faulty reasoning and demagogery going on about the topic.

They'll come around eventually, hopefully before the coastlines rise by two feet!

Also, Bush has put US businesses eight years behind the rest of the world in the race to develop CO2 trapping technology.

EDIT; Scubadog, I challenege you to show me some proof that the majority of scientists don't believe it's man-made.

Yawn.

It must be morning because chicken little is out and crowing.

Hey, chicken, no one denies that there is currently a warming trend. But then, no one denied that there was a cooling trend in the 50's and 60's either. What folks have a problem with is the question, not the fact, of how much of this warming is the result of man. Recent scientific analysis of the temperature on Mars shows evidence that it is warming too!

Still, let's say the Earth is warming. So what? Been to the tropics lately? It's the most lush place on Earth and contains over half of all known species of plants and animals. Seems that life thrives in a warm climate.

Then too, what is the optimal temperature of the Earth? Why is 'this' the optimal temperature or was it the temperature 10 years ago?

You need to get your facts lined up, Chicken because this constant preaching of your religion is really getting tedious. In fact, if global warming means the end of the human race, it might just be worth it if it meant ending your ceaseless babble.

• Average temperatures have climbed 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius) around the world since 1880, much of this in recent decades, according to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.

• The rate of warming is increasing. The 20th century's last two decades were the hottest in 400 years and possibly the warmest for several millennia, according to a number of climate studies. And the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports that 11 of the past 12 years are among the dozen warmest since 1850.

• The Arctic is feeling the effects the most. Average temperatures in Alaska, western Canada, and eastern Russia have risen at twice the global average, according to the multinational Arctic Climate Impact Assessment report compiled between 2000 and 2004.

• Arctic ice is rapidly disappearing, and the region may have its first completely ice-free summer by 2040 or earlier. Polar bears and indigenous cultures are already suffering from the sea-ice loss.

• Glaciers and mountain snows are rapidly melting—for example, Montana's Glacier National Park now has only 27 glaciers, versus 150 in 1910. In the Northern Hemisphere, thaws also come a week earlier in spring and freezes begin a week later.

• Coral reefs, which are highly sensitive to small changes in water temperature, suffered the worst bleaching—or die-off in response to stress—ever recorded in 1998, with some areas seeing bleach rates of 70 percent. Experts expect these sorts of events to increase in frequency and intensity in the next 50 years as sea temperatures rise.

Are humans causing it?
"Very likely," the IPCC said in a February 2007 report. The report, based on the work of some 2,500 scientists in more than 130 countries, concluded that humans have caused all or most of the current planetary warming. Human-caused global warming is often called anthropogenic climate change.

There are a few that waken but for the Rush and Hannity types there is no such thing. They will continue to deny global warming even when Nevada becomes beach front property. There are none so blind as those who will not see.

it's not a denial of global warming. It is a denial of how much impact humans specifically have had on it.

It's sad when a politician changes his mind simply because a family member or big voter says "I won't vote for you if you don't agree with me".

Funny, the founder of the Weather Channel calls Global Warming the Greastest Scam ever. Some people accept Global Warming because of media and political pressure. Don't fall for this scam to empower the government.

No one is denying global warming, it is a natural thing and not this big hysterical event that liberals are scared to death of. In the seventies the liberals was screaming about the new ice age. To enact Kyoto would be the end of the US market and economy, and the end of the US that we know and love. Tree huggers will be the death of this planet.

I havent heard anyone deny the fact that the planet is warming. Theres debate from the scientific community as to weather it is man made or not. If you have proof that will convince the majority of scientists (which is not the case now regardless of what the left wants us to believe) then please share it so we can all be enlightened.
