this question can not be answered...love can't be defined in words... there are many types of love and they are all different...the love I think you are asking about must be felt to truly understand...the feeling when you look into someones eyes...the electricity felt when you touch...the transference of what is important in life...of not being the center of your world...love is not being able to see your self with out the other one...wanting to give more than you take ...these are all feelings....love is infinite....it is not something you feel this year but not the next ....it is spiritual...it is emotional...it is based on heart and soul...love defies definition....

A long time ago I thought that love was something that you reserved for some special set of people that you had judged worthy of it.
After a while I got to thinking about what Jesus had said about turning the other cheek and loving our neighbor I put the two together and realized that he had made no exceptions in these statements. It became obvious to me that he intended that we exclude no one from the love that we are supposed to be giving. I started thinking about my idea of love and suddenly realized that I had not been loving anyone at all. I had simply been judging everyone and every thing.
Judging someone worthy of love is not love, it is only judgment. I actually started to cry when I realized this. I saw just how much of my life I had wasted being judgmental, thinking of myself as a Christian, when I was actually doing just the opposite of what Jesus had asked us to do.
I thought about the verse judge not lest ye be judged, and I understood it for the first time.
I realized that I have a lot of catching up to do. So many opportunities were wasted. I now try to apply the love that I have for the world in a universal way like Jesus asks us to do.
If I start to feel afraid and think that I see someone that I should not love because of something I have thought or heard I try to catch my mistake as soon as possible. I tell myself that I have forgot the truth and have fallen for the same old trick that had cost me so many opportunities to be loving in the past. The horror of this realization is often all that is necessary to bring me back to my senses and make me drop the judgmental nonsense I was thinking.
I still have a lot to learn about love, but at least I’m making progress.

love is realizing that being with someone else makes you feel something positive more often than not, and that someone else feels the same about you. this means that even when this other person does things that get on your last, first, and middle nerve, you still find a light for this person in your heart that you know also exists in their heart. love is understanding that there are certain things that 2 people mutually sacrifice without losing their personality in order to be together. love is making said sacrifices without ever having regrets about it later. lastly, real love is essentially undconditional, like a parent's love for a child.

John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
1 John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
Luke 6:27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you . . .
Luke 6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest . . .
John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
True love is being unselfish and kind, focusing on others' needs before your own; being patient, tolerant, forgiving, understanding, honest, loyal, trustworthy, dependable, self-sacrificing, charitable, etc.. It is loving someone in spite of their faults or what they do.
Too many marriages fall apart because people start focusing on themselves more than their spouses. That's easy to do depending on the person your with; some people can be pretty hard to live with. It takes a lot to be able to have all the qualities above; I don't think people can achieve all of them without having some sort of spiritual guidance and help, and a whole lot of self-mastery.

It is funny to read all the answers that everyone wrote because they are all putting love into a category of feelings and god things. This is not love at all.
I feel love therefore I should be with that person. The person doesn't want to have anything to do with you. So you kill yourself because you are not able to give and receive love.
Well, that ain't it ether.
god is love.
Well, that ain't it ether.
We humans have given so many names to thing feeling and the one that is abused the worst is the word love. We have put our all into it. Only because we have to fined a place to hide our feeling and we named it love.
In the name of love I give my life. As the man jumped from the bridge, He could not show or put the feeling any where so he killed it
Is this love? No.
I looked it up once when I was a teenager and thought I was in love with a girl. My friend told me I didn't know what it was, and that I was too young.
OK The BOTTOM LINE: Love is you or ourselves it is not the feeling we have for any thing or body. It is a spirit that we have as apart of who and what we are made of as humans. It is that thing that is deep inside us all and when we share WHO WE ARE then love goes with it, not a feeling (all though we think it is one) not the god thing (all though we think it is one too) If you want to believe so hard in something and it is God to you. You are giving and sharing the spirit with it and to me that is true love. The giving of one's self unconditionally with the spirit from within.

Love is the potentual feeling inside every human. It is possible to feel loved by yourself.
Love is the feeling of deep understanding and connection with another human being. But it is important to remember that love is a two way thing.
unconditional love is a form of respect you have for your parents and relatives for caring for you. Animals inparticular are strong givers of unconditional love.
Hope this helps.
Blessed be.
