Yes and no. I think what happens is that as you become closer to the individual and stretch in order to embrace some things they like, and facets of their personalities, you grow and broaden and take on some of those very same qualities.

Oh no I certainly hope not I'm a very down to earth person , and I know so many people that think they are so much better than others,I can relate to the rich and the poor ., The educated and uneducated. I never forget my roots and I will never put on errors and be someone I am not, With all that said and done lets reverse this question, Do certain people try to act like me?

Only in mocking them. LOL. At my place of work I will from time to time will mock the way some of these 20 year old plus walk. You know, one shoulder down, dip of one leg while dragging the other foot. Then straighten out and repeat but with the other side of the body. That certain swagger they have. So at my age of 57, it looks funny, but they get the message. Walk straight. But I will not incorporate into my ways the ways of others. I am to independent.

I think you pick up on similar interests or things you have in common or admire about another, but I don't think you really become like them. I have friends who are very different from me in many ways, but we still get along. We learn to respect the other person as they are. If I was only around people I was just like it would be very boring.

That can happen. It's probably because you want to fit in among other reasons. You have to be self aware though and try not to lose who you are. How many times have I heard young people say that they drink or take drugs because their friends do it? I also feel that for example if you are depressed, it does no good to hang out with other depressed people so if you hang out with happy people then you will feel happier. Makes sense both ways.

research has shown the couples who hang out with other couples who are happy together will also have a happier relationship. IF they hang out with couples or friends who are always fighting it will begin to affect their own relationship.

I believe this totally, birds of a feather after all, I got rid of a lot of negative people in my life several years ago for this reason, they were constantly bringing me down and I was becoming one of them -

And it isnt always easy to recover from that kind of thing once you hit that slippery slope

No, I disagree. I think you might know each other and respect each other, but I am not one that becomes like them. My ex best friend of almost 30 years was always "loose". We could never go anywhere without her picking up a man. She would even offer to pick up two, so i could have one, but I am not that way. Plus, she was a drinker, and I usually designated myself as the driver. We were opposites, but we got along great.

Yes Granny. You become a product of your environment. The type of people you hang around with, will become, or you will become, alike,,,the same. (unless you are trying to help someone with something like drug addiction, alcoholism, prostitution, whatever.....)

Yeah, I find that I'll pick up a saying that a person says all the time and vice versa. I think that happens more than you start to act like a person....for me anyway.

I just decided to read your answers first before I made a comment or statement or questioned you back, because I have nothing to relate here to, so I am going to ask is that why people tend to take on the characteristics of their pets. Act like them, look like them lick themselves like them(just being stupid), but if it happens with humans, why does it happen with pets too?
