I asked this a couple days ago, and someone suggested it might be the 1988 animated version of "Les Miserables", but I've looked into it, and that wasn't it.
Anyway, I'm not sure if it was a movie or an episode of a TV series, but it was on in the late 80's/early 90's, and it was an animated story about the contruction of a cathedral, and the relationships amongst the priests and bishops. I recall one of the characters being named "Biship Gervais", but I could be wrong about that. I'm trying to hunt this down for an elderly relative for Christmas.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

David MaCaulay wrote an illustrated book titled "Cathedral" which used beautiful drawings to show the step-by-step construction of a typical medieval cathedral.
In 1987, this was adapted into an educational animated feature, interestingly named "Cathedral"...
