Really? What about afterwards? Why is it so important? Thanks.

Doesnt have to, but you definitly have to afterwards!

Its important in case you catch anything from the guy you're having sex with, such as herpes, or warts...or AIDS and HIV. trust me, you want to get checked. Those stds can pop up out of no where now a days.

Once you start having sex, it is recommended that you see a gynecologist regularly. Usually, once a year for a check-up including a Pap smear (checks for cervical cancer, normal) and anytime some problem springs up. But it would be a good idea to find out about birth control methods unless you are thinking about condoms. If you're not, you should because the chances of pregnancy is very good. Even if you don't get sexually transmitted diseases (STD), you can get annoying infection which if left untreated, can cause a lot of problems including problems with getting pregnant when you do finally decide you're ready for babies.

I'd would do it before and this way, get to know what things you have to be careful about.

Yeah, you should go afterwards. That's what I did. I was eighteen when I lost the V-tag so I went to get a pap smear. Of course, if you are seriously considering sex, it couldn't hurt to so see one before. If nothing else, you'll know what to expect but it is strongly reccomended that you visit the gyno fairly soon after having sex for the first time.

IMO it should be BEFORE, to ensure "down there" is working properly, then once per year.

I had my first at age 11 when I started menstruating, lost my virginity at age 21.

You don't have to go before, but you should definitely start going afterwards.

it's good to go anytime, but you should go after you've had sex or turned 18 at the very least.... but lots of 16yo virgins go
