The cover won't pop open when pressed, even after the car doors have been unlocked. How can I manually release it so I can get gas in my car.

I use to run into this problem in my shop on some cars...you may have to use a thin dull knife blade or plastic knife or Popsicle stick to pry it open. If it has a latch, you'll need to depress the latch to clear the strike plate to get it to open, then bend the strike plate on the door a little to fix it. On some gas doors, you can also press on the opposite side of the latch on the door to get it to swing open. And some cars have a manual release inside the trunk just for this problem.

Sometimes there's a manual release cable just inside the trunk near the fuel door behind the side carpeting. Also, have someone pull the cabin release lever while you push in on the fuel door itself. Lubricate the door release mechanism with WD-40 and exercise it once you get it open.

sounds like vapor lock. tap it lightly all around the cap with a hammer or a rubber mallet, you don't want to damage the cap. Worse comes to worse ask one of the gas attendants to give you a hand, they are probably accustomed to stuck gas caps.

Try the switch while someone else takse a flat tip screw driver to it.

Good Luck.

PS... This method might damage your car. Duh.
