Октябрьская революция (the October Revolution) gets its name because of a coup d'etat traditionally dated to 25 October 1917 (that is, in the old Russian calendar). This equates to 7 November in the new style calendar.

Russia was still using the old Julian calender, named for Julius Caesar.which was about 10 days behind our calender. By that time all other countries had switched over to using the Gregorian calender, named after Pope Gregory. The Pope
reworked the calender because Easter, which takes place after the first full moon of spring, was coming later and later each year. The main change with the new calender was to include a leap year every 4 years, but another change was to move the new year from the first day of spring to January 1.

People who still celebrated the new year at the beginning of spring were soon called April Fools, which evolved into our tradition of playing pranks. You may also notice October means eight (like Octagon) November means nine and December means ten. When you realize March use to be the first month all the month names make more sense.
Sometime you will see George Washington listed with 2 different birthdays, thats because when he was born, England was still on the old Julian calender
