It's a rectangular button that says "add tab" and has a purple + beside it

Well, I have IE 6 and I opened multiple tabs (don't know why but there's also the tabbed browsing feature here) and I closed the last tab, then a window appeared, asking me if I wanted to disable tabs and I accidentally clicked yes.

Click on "tools" then "Internet Options," at the bottom it will say "tabs" or something like that, it may be different. Then press setting and enable tabs. You need to restart your computer for it to take action however.

I've got IE6 as well (never use it though!) but I can't see where you mean. I thought tabbed browsing was introduced with IE7.

I use Firefox, Opera and Avant - all are great and much better than IE. But if you can tell me exactly wehre this add tab button is on IE6 - I'll take a look.

replace your explorer to a greater robust version.i advise u to apply information superhighway explorer 7.this could remedy your issues .I experienced some issues like yours and downloaded exploreer replace.Now each and all the themes are long previous.
