Just to make sure you know I'm talking about the AUSTRALIAN election here. As I understand it, there will also be a half Senate election. If the coalition has the majority already, isn't it most likely that they'll maintain control of the Senate afterwards or would we need a huge loss of seats for that to happen? It's late and I'm tired so perhaps I'm not thinking straight but no-one seems to have mentioned that in the campaign.

I think the left (Labor + greens) need to win seven more seats than the right (libs + familyfirst) so that the govt loses control of the senate. I guesstimate that there's about 74 seats up for grabs, so the left needs 41 seats to the right's 33.

There is no half senate election , You are correct in one section, when people vote they vote for both Upper which is the Senate, and Lower, which is day to day , and the only difference is that the Senate is a 4 year, while the Lower is 3 year, now if Labour wins this election, in the lower, and the upper, the previous Government still has Control in the Senate until the First Of July after each Federal Election.

The Senate never gets mentioned much, which is one reason Howard got a guernsey there last time. It seems like the Democrats and Greens are making a real push this time to alert people to the importance of their Senate vote, so let's hope people pay attention.
I think there is a biggish difference ~ maybe as many as five seats must be turned around for a change to the Senate ... I hope the incoming government, whoever they are , does not have an obstructionist Senate, that would be the last straw.
Cheers :-)

i imagine the AEC are literally making each and each and every pollpaper in random order to get rid of the donkey result. i recognize this changed into real for the hot Tasmanian council elections, yet we are going to ought to be sure for this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days's federal election. very last 3 hundred and sixty 5 days it wasn't the reigning political celebration, yet whoever held the seat receives the donkey vote. The hard paintings candidate changed into on the proper, then the Liberal, then the vegetables, then the relatives First.

wake up you need to WAKE UP! Get your head out of the sand and join those that are aware of what is actually going on and stop blindly believing the party propaganda.
Rudd is campaigning in Liberal seats that they hold by 10%, no party would do that unless they were pretty sure of a large swing against their opponents.
Likewise Howard is campaigning in Liberal safe seats in the 5% - 10% range in a desperate attempt to limit the damage.

I think we would need to lose a lot of seat, thats why I think Howard will be returned to govt.
I believe this will be a very close election.
jonbehd it was just an opinion and I do believe this election will be very close I'm sorry if it wasn't the same opinion as yours.
