I've noticed a lot of the questions in the alternative medicine section seem to be about illegal drugs, especially "where can I get drugs?"
(To which I normally answer go to a rave or a hippy festival in the woods and meet people).
To an extent, I can see questions about Pot or LSD being legitamate in this forum (ie. does medical marijuana help with ___, can LSD psycotherapy cure ____), but those seem to be in the minority. Instead, I believe the flood of other questions about drugs is somewhat messing up this part of YA. First off, do you agree or disagree that this is a problem that needs to be adressed? (It has been really bothering me).
Secondly, I think that a forum should be made explicitly for drug questions. My logic is that people who want to know about the matter will keep on flooding YA, so it would be best to give them one place the mods can focus on. Do you agree or disagree with this solution, and is there anything better?

I completely agree with you that there are a lot of questions regarding illegal drugs and that there needs to be a forum for that purpose.
They are not 'alternative medicines' and do not belong in this section.
I think that Yahoo will not want to create a forum for illegal drug use though. I would be surprised if they did.
Good ideas.

The drug trade is a bloody and deadly enterprise. It ruins millions of lives and kills thousands every year. Any habitual drug user will froth at the mouth and viciously defend it until they are blue in the face but that does not make it okay. Love the sinner, hate the sin. I think Jesus would be against illegal drugs if you were to ask him personally.

As far as marijuana, you need to recognize that it ISN'T illegal everywhere. YA is a world-wide forum.
Too, there is still a great deal of debate as to whether Marijuana SHOULD be illegal in the U.S. There is significant evidence that it is an herb with remarkable healing and health benefits ... if used in moderation and appropriately.
I tend to think that the discussion of such things should not be illegal or censored. Selling such things illegally, though should not happen here.
I'm not a fan of censorship when something is being reasonably discussed; especially when the discussion is about a substance that may be legal in some places. Remember: The United States is not the entire planet. And even here, while a substance may be illegal, discussing it is not.

Yes, there should definitely be a category for recreational drugs because whether or not they're legal, they exist and people will continue to use them and talk about them on here.
I pretty much go to this category & Other-Health TO answer questions about drugs just because I know they will be here, every single day. So they might as well make a separate place for it.

Yeah, I know what you mean ... one section attracts the attention of a certain group and they swamp it until there isn't much left for the serious askers and answerers.
I doubt creating a new category for those type questions would solve it, people might not use it anyway!
Also, I would seriously doubt many of those questions are serious or get serious answers.
You might just need to ride it out and hope they get bored and wander off to disrupt some other corner of cyberspace!
Cheers :-)

You may as well categorise for chevrolet car parts or dwarf tossing. This is an open forum and people don't want to be stuck in little boxes. I want to answer questions about what I know and have experienced - which covers a broad range of categories. It's called browsing.

There are forums for counseling, guidance and treatment for the prevention of drug abuse both here in India and in the USA: Check the following websites:
Drug abuse prevention forums in the States:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/
http://forums.student.com/viewforum.php?f=114
Drug free America foundation:http://www.dfaf.org/forum.php
http://us.cnn.com/HEALTH/9905/19/addiction.programs/index.html
A huge collection of forums and clubs for assistance in the USA:
http://www.dmoz.org/Health/Addictions/Substance_Abuse/Support_Groups/
Hope the above would suffice!

Yes, they need a "recreational drug use" section.
