I do not wish to lose data and the programs already installed on the PC.Is the answer you supplied safe in that sense?

I do not know my little P.C. pal,,but I do not wish to also lose my data in case you are not safe yourself ,,oh,,goodness gracious me ..................................what am I to do....................

Back up all personal data from your PC, FIRST. "Backup" means: copy to CD / DVD / external hard drive.

Then, back up all programs NOT on CD / DVD already, you may have to re-install them later. Make sure you have a printed record of all CD keys / Activation codes.

Finally, save your Address Book, Browser favourites, password files, and ISP settings.

Never attempt to re-install Windows until this is all done. Assume you WILL accidentally blow everything away, and be prepared.
