I have noticed that the drain in my back garden in over flowing whenever the washing machine or when the bath has been emptied, also when I flush the toilet water bubbles out of the drainer in the shower.

Does this sound like a big problem to fix?? how much would I expect to pay at the most to unblock the problem???

thanks for any advice

Sometimes the local council will do it and sometimes it is the water company. Maybe Dynarod?

Sounds like a blocked drain rather than a broken drain.

If it is blocked you should budget for between £100 and £200 - more if they need to use a camera (but they should rod first as that is the cheapest and clears most blockages). Some local firms may charge less. Ask for an estimate.

If the drain is broken it could cost you much more.

Please don't use caustic soda or bleach down an outside drain that is overflowing. If there is that much backed up caustic soda will not be effective on the drain but will still cause health problems to the poor person who is doing the unblocking. If you have used caustic soda you need to tell the person unblocking the drain for his own safety.

Do you know where the block is? I would guess outside somewhere is the flood is in your back garden. You'll need to lift the manhole covers along the line of the drain to trace where the block is.

Good luck.

i wish you had said what country you live in ..but in the UK ..go out side find any manholes ..lift lid ..you will probably find them blocked ..if you have a soil pipe ..tap it ..does it feel solid ?..if yes then that's full ..you will need to get manholes rodded not really a job for a lady ..expect to pay up to £100 ...dont call them out at night ...dont waste your money on caustic soda ..this is a bigger job than that rubbish can handle

I know sometimes, that you can use Caustic Soda to unblock drains. Do to your local hardware store and ask for some advise.
