Not to much.Its using gas only to warm up itself so it means that its not moving and it doesn't burn to much gas.It is like the difference when you are having a rest and when you are running. :)

About the same amount of fuel it would take to drive slowly 7 miles. Warm up requiers more fuel to make up for friction of a cold motor. And just sitting warming up causes carbon build up. Current prices of gasoline clear out the garage and keep snow and ice off the car and drive away in a cold car it will be more environmently friendly and you can put the extra change in your pocket

Several years ago (probably during the LAST gas crunch) I read that an idling car used approx. half a gallon per hour. I don't remember if that was for a 4-6-or8 cylinder car, but with computer controls, you can figure it hasn't gotten any worse.
