The Tampa Bay organization seems to have turned fruity or something. Instead of being fearsome, Tampa Bay has now changed from the Devil Rays to...just being about Sun Rays. Weird...and kind of gay too. I don't like this change, it's not going to change the fact they're in last place all the time!

Did you hear the owners announcement. Stuff like this will help in the changing of the organization to achieve new heights.

It's not like they are signing great players trying to improve the on field product or unveiling a new stadium or anything. They have a new corny logo.

Another fine reason for contraction.

I read that they are willing to listen to offers for Kazmir so there would go their pitching although Shields was pretty decent last year. Delmon Young might become a serious force to be reckoned with but that other young kid turned out to be a bust - I cannot remember his name right now. He had problems in the minors with his attitude, they brought him up, he did less than fair, got a Domestic Violence charge or something and then the Rays wound up just putting him on the inactive list. The guy has talent, too, and is blowing it big time. If they do trade Kazmir, they might get some young talent for him but then their pitching is really in dire straits. Not sure what the solution is for them. BTW - I agree that an arcade at a baseball stadium is totally ridiculous. They have a carousel at Comerica.

Well you're right, they spend too much time and money on, logos
new uniforms and cool things to put in their stadium. In their stadium they have an arcade! Now thats just ridiculous. If I was going to see a ballgame I would watch the game, not go to the Arcade. Thats just ridiculous. Now thats just the money spending part.

Their pitching every year has lacked terribly, and some 19-22 yera old kid has to step up and throw something memerable, something BIG to become the ace. We all though Scott Kazmir was there a couple of years ago, but he didn't do so well in the '07 season, and I'm guessing he wont win more than 15 games in '08.

Their offense has been great the last couple of years, and theres been plenty of players who could of stepped up, and could of shown that they are a good leader. Look at all the teams around you..they all have one player who stands out...one player who appeals to you as the leader. The Devil Rays (Sorry Sun Rays now) Do not have a qualified enough leader.

In a word, management. Tropicana Field is about the lousiest ballpark in the majors. It's so far from anything that the average fan can't even find the place. They can name the team anything they want. It doesn't help the problem.

They are dead last in attendance in the majors and have no hope of correcting the situation. The entire franchise needs to either pack it in or relocate. This past season the D-Rays played three home games a Disney's Wide World of Sports park just to see what the interest would be in the Orlando area. SRO for all three games. That tells you something.

The new owner wants a restart. The team hasn't done well and they were considering many other names.

As for their original name it was fine except that there were too many syllables to Tampa Bay Devil Rays. I know that some people liked it for how it rhymed but I thought it was too long. My preference would be for all the teams to drop the "Bay" from their name anyway.

Tampa Buccaneers
Tampa Lightning
Tampa Devil Rays

The original name sounds much better with out "Bay" don't you think?

Have to agree. I loved DEVIL Rays. Why change it. If the ownership group truly wants to win, than blow away the O's or Twins for Bedard or Santana. Something like Longoria, Brignac, Ruggiano, Price, and Nieman. Grab a couple of RP's like Linebrink and Gagne/Codero. if the Rays do that, it would put them on par w/ the Red Sox.
Hey Rays ownership, you wanna put fannies in the seats than do that.
Why? Well here you go

1) Top 3 of Bedard/Satana, Kazmir, Shields would be the best in Baseball.
2) Linebrink and Codero along w/ Wheeler make a top 5 releif Corps
3) you already have enough offense and even if that trade was done, still have all kinds of talent down in the minors.

The opportunity is there. Rays compete and voila, you get your new stadium aka like the M's did in "95"

Changing the uniforms and name has nothing to do with them being in last place, but it has everything to do with selling more merchandise. In that regard, they will be successful. Every time any team changes their colors or logo, everyone buys all the new stuff.

I do agree though, it's a bad name. The word sun isn't actually in the name, but I think that's the kind of rays they mean.

Management wont spend money. That got good young players. The have 2 decent pitchers. Bj Upton is good. Baldelli would be good but he only plays 10 games a year due to injury. an awesome leadoff man. But no real superstars. If they went and got tori hunter, Miguel Tejada maybe a pitcher or to they would be better.

The have a good core group of young players but ownership is not willing to spend the money on a few additional players to fill some holes and allow to team to move forward and be a contender.
