if he is playing test cricket, then why not one day too? now that he is captain shouldn't he return to one days too?

I don't understand why some cricketers say they retire, but then continue playing test cricket. What is the logic behind that? I'm just curious to know

He may play tests also for 1 or 2 years only

Test cricket and odi are entirely different forms of cricket. Kumble has never been a permanent member in the playing 11 of ODI matches, whereas he has been a defenite choice for the test matches. That is the main reason why he had retired from ODI and not from test cricket.
