Pandas are part of the same family as Grizzli bears and Polar bears, both of which are very dangerous and deadly...If I accidentally leaned over the Panda cage at the zoo, would the Panda be strong enough to bite it off?

Yes, there are circumstances that Pandas can be provoked to attack and bite humans.

Have you heard of that drunk man who attempted to pet a Panda in a zoo last year. Panda bit him on his right leg, the man tried to bite the Panda too..but the fur was so thick.

Well there's 3 important factors here.

1) Is the panda bear over 3 feet tall?
2) Are you over 5 feet tall?
3) Does the Panda understand english?

If the answer is yes to any of the first two and the third, then your okay. You can just ask the panda to place your arm gently away from their jaw and you shouldn't have any more problems.

If he doesen't understand english then it makes this situation alot more difficult. I do think he would be able to bite your arm off. It sucks because of the circumstances but at least you could park in the handicap parking spots in wal-mart!!!

If the Panda had offspring and thought you were trying to get too close, I have no doubt you would lose an arm or worse.

Hell if the Panda was just irritated that you were leaning over into it's territory, it would most likely have a go.

They may be cute, but as you quite rightly said, they are still a bear and should be treated with respect and caution.

Pandas are usually friendly and they are not like usual bears. A prove: they like to hug people and hang on them. Also, they are herbivores, I am sure 99.99% that a panda can't harm you. Panda's teeth are not used to eat flesh, they are used to eat eucalyptus leaves or bamboo from trees. So there are no ways that he can bite your arms off!

A Panda could bite your head off if it really wanted to. I presume u mean a giant panda as found in China (black and white) and not the tiny little reddy coloured ones found elsewhere?

well if the panda suddenly turns to a carnivore since they are herbivores in the first place

It COULD ; their jaws are designed to crush bamboo. But they are usually quite passive and only attack humans if they feel threatened.
Do NOT lean over and put your arm in the enclosure to test this theory.

I think they would be able to, since their jaws must be strong to crush bamboo. Although I doubt they would ever try.
