Your question is rather ambiguous. Which field are you talking about? Who failed in it?

Mathematics was never my field, so I didn't do well in that--I suppose one could call it laziness, because it never really interested me and so I failed to apply myself--but the harsh criticism I received from a close relative engendered in me an attitude of "it really doesn't matter what I do because this individual will never be satisfied, so why even try?"

Working efficiently? I guess I didn't, because I felt trying at all was an exercise in futility!
