I'm on a limited income and want to do something nice for my husband granted he has an excellent job and makes plenty of money I just don't want to use the money he makes to pay for a gift for him because to me thats like him buying his own gift.

You could always decorate a card and make little "coupons" for different things. The could be letting him watch the footie while you bring him snacks and drinks. A foot massage...back rub. You could do sexual things. Maybe cook his favourite meal? Really your imagination is the limit. What are some of the things he enjoy's most?

Or you could just have a lovely picture of yourself (or the two of you) made along with a card just telling him how much you love him and all the things you are thankful for or things about him that make you go all fluttery inside. Very personal gift...I'm sure he'll love it!

I find a really nice idea is pictures! I put a gorgeous picture of me and my b/f in a beautiful frame!

You could also make a photo album, starting from when you both got together to the present day!

Or find someone who's really good at drawing! Get your favourite picture of you and your hubby, get it drawn onto some proper drawing paper and have that framed!

I think it's always the though that counts.... he'll be able to tell you've put a lot of effort into all these things!! Hope this helps :-)

As seniors we make our own gifts. From birthdays to Christmas. I'm a carpenter and a quilt maker, along with other hobbies. My wife is a expert tailor and sewer. We have a complete wood working shop on one side of the basement and a quilt making shop on the other side.

We've made dozens of quilts for both friends and relatives,. Also my wife make fingered driving gloves, mittens for the kids, she also makes a variety of other things like scarves.

The best type of gift to give is something you can make by hand.

I always think photo's of past memories are a great gift and generally inexpensive. There's a site called PhotoBox Ltd where you can create your own photo albums and have them printed in hard cover books. You could also do a desk top calendar for your other half to put on his desk! I've done most of my xmas shopping on this site http://www.gobuygifts.co.uk. There's some top stuff on there and it links to other top online stores where you can get some cracking bargains. Good luck! :)

Give him something deep, that means something. If that means just a dinner at a fancy restaurant, than go for it. Really, it's the thought that counts.

And if you can't think of anything, just make him happy. Not in a sexual way. But just make the day good for him. No one wants a boring or depressing birthday.

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.

when i'm stuck for cash, i always make something myself - that's always way more economical than buying something.......

go to a discount store / grocery store / second hand book shops and buy loads of little things that he likes - e.g. favourite chocolate, chips, a book he'd like, a DVD that he'd enjoy.....I would make him up a massive hamper (basket) full of nice things - new socks, jocks......

or you could do something imaginative - go to the discount store and buy maybe 10 small items......things that he'd like - a deck of cards, new socks, a mini travel kit, game puzzle, book of expressions, etc. then you can do it either of 2 ways:

1. Set up a treasure hunt around your house - hand him the first clue and the first clue is the item you've bought (a small present) and the item has a piece of paper attached that has a written clue on it - e.g. 'round and round it spins and cleans, dirty socks and jocks it cleans' (this is obviously the washing machine / washer) - he goes to that location and the next little present and clue (attached) is there for him. you get him to run round the house collecting about 10 clues and at the end you lead him to the car and in it is waiting a hamper packed full of lovely food and you go off on a picnic for the day - what about that?

I have done this treasure hunt with my family and in-laws for a couple of christmases running and they all (equally) love it and really get into the spirit of thing. by the end, they're like 'aww, it's over' (as in disappointed that it had to end). i remember the first year i suggested it, they were all being negative and complaining that they had to exert an effort and walk around the house to get their gifts - the following christmas, i said i wasn't going to do the treasure hunt that year and they all started complaining!! if you have a garden or back yard, get some of the clues out there too - the more running about that's involved, the better - e.g. place first clue at one end of house, 2nd clue at other end, 3rd clue at opposite end again, etc!! it works a treat!

OR

2. you can do the day by day clues - each day, hand him a little gift and the gift is a 'clue' to what's going to happen at the end of the week - you could start it on monday and by saturday he has a fair idea of what you're doing - e.g. overnight in a nice hotel, a picnic to your favourite spot, tickets to see a game, a spin on a motorboat, vouchers to go wake-boarding, abseiling, waterskiing, day boat cruise (whatever would appeal to you both....but then it becomes about the ocassion and the build-up rather than the actual cost) you can make people feel really special without having to spend a heap of money.

last valentines my boyfriend brought me out for dinner and i decided i wanted to treat him instead that day so i booked a local hotel and checked in during the day (this is nothing sordid trust me) - i called to the hotel and set up a tray with a bottle of champagne, grapes, little candles all around the room and bathroom, chocolates and a little things like that (all brought into the hotel by me) - after the meal i brought him to the hotel lobby (he was still not sure what was happening) and told him to wait while i ran in and lit the candles, etc. when he walked in, he was lost for words and immediately asked 'can we afford this?' as the set-up looked soo expensive and as if the hotel had done it for us. he was really delighted at all my efforts - but it only needed a little thought and it got a better reaction than if i had spent 300 euro on a gift.

I'm a firm believer in a little thought going a long long way.
best of luck with it!!

Make something really personal for him - you can get cheap art equipment etc from places like HobbyCraft and Argos - if you're good at art, why not paint something, or make a photo frame thing with ur pic in?

if not arty, why not write something, or just buysome chocs/ pants/ a scarf ????

xxxx Good Luck finding something!
