It is very thick and there is a lot of it. I chipped off what I could but there's heaps left. It's an synthetic fabric ( the crease-resistant type) so this may complicate things. I'm thinking about just throwing it in the bin.

I've had to do this once before. Scoop up as much of the wax that you can with a spatula or a spoon. Then lay the tablecloth on an ironing board, and put a plain paper sack over the wax stain. Put a warm (not hot) iron to the paper. You may need more than one paper bag because the paper will saturated wax. Keep going until you can get any more wax off of it. If it's a colored candle put a prewash stain remover on it, or put detergent directly on the spot before you wash. Wash the tablecloth with detergent in the hottest water that's safe for the fabric. Wax-based stains must be melted to be removed from the fabric fibers.
Make sure the stain is completely removed before putting your tablecloth in the dryer. If you're unsure, wash, wash again. It should come right up. I hope I helped.

Fold it with the wax to the out side and put in the freezer for a couple of hours. It goes to a solid and it will pop right off the table cloth.
This works real well for gum also.

I don't know about the paper towels I would think they would tear up when trying to get the wax up. Alcohol may bleach your fabric too, I don't think I would try that on such delicate fabric. I think mandy has the right idea, I would try that.

You can use paper towels instead of paper bags and DON'T FORGET to use rubbing alcohol after you get the wax off to get the color off if it was a colored wax.
