Our instincts are based upon the roles humans played in hunter gatherer societies. Women are the gatherers and are concerned with what they can see. Men are the hunters and are concerned with what they can't see (like the lion behind the next tree).
Women don't like the sight of the underside of the toilet seat because it's not as clean or hygienic as the top. Men know the state of the underside of the toilet seat and also know that hiding it doesn't make it any better.

males see the toilet seat as a tool to bring in place when needed, but prefer the abstract vision of an empty toilet crapper bowel. Females like to see solid objects, and treat the toilet as a piece of furniture. In their homes, women like to drape everything with sheets to conceal any openness. This makes it cosy for them. Men, generally educated outdoors, prefer space and room to breathe. Men also raise the loo seat to cool it off.

i for my section, did not supply a hoot if I spent an more suitable 2 seconds popping the seat down after a male. nonetheless, one nighttime I were given very inebriated, went to 'smash the seal' and fell instantly via, because the seat changed into up, and were given semi-stuck contained in the lavatory. it really is my own clarification for desiring the seat down after a guy transaction =)

I never do. I ALWAYS lift the seat. It's just something I've grown up with doing as I have lots of brothers. My boyfriends have always found it weird that I lift the seat rather than like their other girlfriends that didn't.

because it's bad feng shui leaving it up (cant spell it) they say all your riches go down the toilet if you leave it up.
(this excuse didn't work on my bloke either lol)
