do you always pick a "best" answer for all your questions?

and what does its mean when you get an email saying yahoo answers has picked a best answer, does it mean you dont get points?

No, if I can't decide which is best, or I don't like any of the answers, I don't pick one. When you don't pick one after a few days the question is voted on by other yahoo members. Then yahoo sends you an e-mail stating that yahoo answerers have chosen a best answer. ;-)

Most of the time I pick a best answer but a couple of times I haven't. I prefer to pick my own answer because sometimes people are only voting for the points so they just pick the first answer rather than actually reading the answers.

Well of the 18 I have asked I have picked 17 best answers. No you don't get the points if the voters pick the best answer.

If you don't pick a best answer in the allotted time frame then it will be put to a vote and you won't get the 3 points for picking a best answer. I always try and pick a best answer!

Yes and yes. If you don't pick a best answer, it goes to voting and the Y!A community vote on a best answer. The answerer still gets their ten points but you don't get any and it's a bit disappointing for everyone.

I try to because the voters aren't very good at choosing. :P Sometimes I just leave it to vote though, when I can't decide or when none of the answers really helped.

I think you still do get points when you get the e-mail saying the community chose a best answer. Maybe 2 or 3 points?

I always pick a best answer, even if it's not a great answer, there is usually one that is better than the others.
