Your doctors will probably induce you if the baby is that big and they are worried about delivering. I was induced with my fist son, a month early.they will get you admitted and put some stuff on your cervix, to ripen them, then they will put you on an IV to start contractions. sorry I don't remember what it is called. Then they will check you every so often and make sure that you have dilated, and if all goes well your baby will be here. I ended up having to have an emergency c-section because I wouldn't dilate even after they broke my water. But every case is different. And if you do have to have a c-section, it is not that bad, I have had 2. My doctors explained what they were doing the whole time. They give you a set of shots in ur spine, that was the only scary part for me, they also put up a curtain so you will not have to see the procedure.
But they are probably trying to avoid the c-section, by inducing before your due date, because if the baby is two big they may have to do one, and if they don't you could rip really bad. My sister-in-law just had a 9 lbs 10 oz baby naturally and he ripped her from one hole to the other... her doctor didn't realize that he had gotten so big in the last week and told her if he had known he would of done a c- section.

Hi Babystuff! I'd like to offer a little bit of a different point of view here. First of all, congrats...what a Christmas present :)
Second of all, 9 and 10 lb babies are quite common. Funny that people are scared of that, but it's not really the baby's size that will determine how hard your labour and delivery is or how likely you are to have a c-section. You could be 5 feet tall and deliver a 10 lb baby no problem and 6 feet tall but struggle with a 7 lb baby. The bones in your baby's head aren't fused together yet, so all the bony plates move and slide up over each other so he will fit through your cervix and birth canal. Doctors used to think that shoulder dystocia, something that happens when the baby's shoulders get stuck in the birth canal, happened with only big babies. Studies have shown that we can't predict it happening based on your baby's size, and it happens to small and large babies.
Your baby is well protected and growing fine inside of you, and each day that you are pregnant is another healthy day for him! It's also another day where yes, you may be uncomfortable with a big belly, but a day where you can still rest up and get ready for the day you'll be caring for him 24/7.
I would suggest you relax, take it easy, and read some good natural birth stories...even if you are birthing in the hospital it's a great idea to read homebirth stories with midwives...because it will give you confidence that your body can, indeed, work!

The 37 weeks that they said is normal because they count pregnancy from the first date of your last period not from when you actually conceived.
If they are talking about taking him early they may induce you or do a c-section, whichever seems safest to them. If the baby is really big and the measurements of your pelvis seem small (too small for him to pass through safely) then a c-section may be in order. If they induce you, you will be admitted to hospital and given any number of treatments (like drip, gel or breaking your waters) to get you into labour.
It really isn't anything to be worried about but I would make sure to ask a lot of questions before making a final decision as it is really in your hands. Don't let them do anything you feel uncomfortable with or think is unecessary.
They will let you know the next time they see you (probably in the next week or so) what they think is going to be the best way to deliver your baby.
Good luck and don't stress. Your baby will be fine and you need to enjoy these last weeks and relax!
best of luck

I was induced...The doctor has you go to the hospital and they put you on an IV. The induction is a 3 step process...It just speeds along your dilatation and helps you to ready your body for labor...It's not a bad thing but if they don't induce they are probably afraid that the baby will be too large for you to even consider having naturally..

Nothing to get worried about the unprotected ... you had on 11th March,07. What ever you have said is a clinical report of a Doctor. So nothing to be worried about excepting taking care of both of you. It seemed to be your first child. So no worryness. But I would suggest to consult another Doctor as a measure of precaution and this Doctor should be a specialist in his zone.
Thanks and best of luck. May God bless both of you.

my sister in law just had the same problem last month as you. her child was eating well, everythign was awesome except he was really huge.. and they didnt think they wanted to wait til her due date.. so they took him 6 days early. that is because of how uncomfrontable she was. her son was 9 lbs 2 ozs! they set up a seasection. it is normal, if they induce it is to make you go into labor.. if the baby doesnt come easily or if its too big they will schedule a sea section. its okay.. nothing to worry about. congratualtions! and best wishes. the doctors are doing what they feel is best for you and your baby.you can ask them to please elaborate on what is going on if you would like.
