The people, there is NOTHING wrong with the system. Power and control is what the "people" are after. The system has a "checks and balances" that trys to keep this in line, however those that are in power write the system rules by making laws and trying to overturn the balance in their favor.

I'd say the political system of the past. As yaers have gone on, polititions have continued to insulate themselves from the very people they are suppose to represent.
They have insulated themselves also of the financial consequeses for doing things wrong as well.
So now we are stuck in an unbalanced 2 party system with no direct means of ousting the representatives that have become career politicians.
Even if California got a clue and ousted their representatives or congress members, there are still 49 states, and by and large, at least in Government, one person can' t make that big of a difference. Not as just a representative off the people. We would have to sweep the entire nation to make effective change. But then again, the people are limited because they all have a certain term they much fullfill before the vote comes up again.
That kind of coordination , nation wide is nearly unheard of. Last that happened was the poorly written immigration anmesty act which the American people overwhelmingly shot down.

There are corrupt people in the political system. There are corrupt people outside the political system. It's not fair to say that one is in error and the other is not. So this I say to you...this world sucks!

The people. Because if the real answer is either of the two, the political system is on the hands of the people.

the system works as long as you do not allow the elite to get near the politicians, they will take the power from the people by influencing policies.
The people are apathetic and simpleminded.
They do hold some responsibility but this system is the best we have found, and if people do not care then things must be pretty ok for them...
their future might be swept under them by the elite but it seems no one cares....

Eh, everyone contributes. It's all a never ending circle of feces or the government is given too much power and people are whining about it and not doing anything.
