I need to buy a suit that looks nice, but isn't too expensive (preferably under $200). I'm short, so the store should have a "petite" line if possible. Where do you recommend I should go?

Also, what looks better in your opinion, an all-black suit, or a pinstripe one that looks black from far away?

all-black will be more versatile. you can pair it w/ a metallic cobalt long sleeve button-up for this winter and still wear it next spring w/ a pink camisole.
hope this helps :D

Firstly if you want a "good" suit it's going to cost you alittle more. Pinstripe for you if you are petite, and I reccomend if you are looking for not to pricey a Dillards or Sears outlet. Now if you are willing to spend a little more(150 dollars) Banana Repulic and Express would be great choices.

I got a nice all black/pinstripe suit from Dillards for $78 last year. I think since it was black that it made me look slimmer and taller.

Mervyn's in your area? I would try Ross. (First thought was Macy's, but that might be too pricey.) You can also buy something on line and have it tailored.

I like the pinstripes...will give your height, but I think they should be precieved for that effect. I obviously can't see it, but pinstripe one sounds like it could be fun.

Check out Nordstrom's - their semi-annual sale just started.

Other places w/ petites:
Banana Republic

Lands' End online

Talbot's & their online store

Pinstripe is better - it adds interest to the suit & elongates you.

If you want to get a solid suit, then consider deep gray or navy. Solid black can make you look "too" small & severe.

Brooks Brothers is pricey but very good quality. http://www.brooksbrothers.com/IWCatSectionView.process?IWAction=Load&Merchant_Id=1&Section_Id=409&viewAll=t&sortBy=
