When babies are young they usually go through several outfits a day and onesies are cheap, easy and quick to put on. It covers a bit of their legs and doesn't let their diaper hang loose. Plus the snaps at the bottom make it easier to change a diaper rather than having to pull a pair of pants/shorts on and off. Also, when it's cold outside, a onesie acts as an undershirt to help keep the cold out of their chest.
When my son was little and we were at home, onesies are what I dressed him in. And if we were going somewhere quickly all I had to do was slip a pair of shorts over the onesie. They're great for babies to play in.
Also, the onesie pajamas are my ALL TIME FAV! They have the built in footies so if the baby comes uncovered during the night he won't be cold.
They're just great all around. I don't know of a mom who doesn't like them.

Babies wear onesies because they keep them warm. You try keeping a shirt pulled down over a little Buddah belly all day long.
Babies are generally colder in nature than adults. They also have a harder time regulating their body temperature. Onesies can help them stay a little warmer.
I don't think we would have survived with out onesies.
Plus, it looks better to have a baby in just a onesie with their diaper, than a tshirt and diaper, because it's cuter, and you don't actually have to look at the diaper, lol.

Yes, there is a point....
Onesies are great! They stay in place, whereas a normal shirt will wrinkle up, roll up, end up all wadded up under baby, and not be comortable. Think about it - a baby is laying down most of the time, wriggling, rolling, etc... normal clothes just get all twisted. Onesies stay in place, cover their tummies, backs, shoulders, etc, and don't get all twisted, wrinkled or wadded up.
Onesies are pretty much the best invention in baby wear!

Yes, they're needed. It's the best for babies. They don't know how to cooperate when we want to put pants on them. Onesies make it easier. Just push the buttons and it's done. You don't want to put pants off and on every time you change diapers. It's likely you will need to change diaper 6-10 times a day for about 1000 days for boys and 700 days for girls...

They are usually stretchy and made of cotton which makes it comfy for the baby. Onesies have snaps that opens up at the crotch area so you can easily change the diaper if it needs changing.

They are very convenient ..
And it's good for keeping the babies tummy covered (warmer) .. because with t-shirts the babies tend to pull them up .. (or take them off!) it's harder for a baby to take a onesie off when they get older .. with a t-shirt, they could just pull it over their head.

Prevent older babies and toddler from doing the same thing that Tommy Pickles from Rugrats did in one episod (stripping). I noticed in the show, Rugrats they never have ANY babies in onsies. The only other one piece clothes that babies wear in the show are footed pajamas, overalls/ diaper cover w/ suspender and coveralls.

Because of their little buddha bellies tshirts rid up. They are also great for keeping the diaper covered and little hands from finding the gifts they leave in said diaper!

They have several uses:
If it gets hot, you can pull off their outfit and they can wear their onsie..still covered but not sweltering.
Adds an extra layer if they soil themselves or their bottle leaks.
Keeps itchy or irritating clothes (like sweaters, harsh detergents, etc) off their fragile, sensitive skin.
Sometimes we weren't going anywhere and my son loved to have nothing on but a onesie and socks, and explored the house. =)

Onesies keep the kid warm and comfortable, are easier to put on and remove, and much easier to clean up.
