I just kind of thought of this and got a little curious on how others define their preferred type of motorcycle. Like if you were going to get a dirt bike what brand would you get and why? What brand would you get if it were a cruiser and why? what kind for a sport bike and why? what comes to mind when you think of each brand name? What is you favorite bike and why? I just think this would be interesting to see exactly how different people define and group the different brand's and associate them with type's. I hope we can get allot of answer's lol for some reason I don’t get allot of reply’s probably because I ask the question very late. I cant wait to read all the reply’s. : )
Remember this is what YOU think of them.

Ya I thought about that but I didn’t want to waste points. : ) You don’t have to answer all the questions. You can just answer the ones you want to. I'll do one for my self as well.

Kawasaki = dirt bike / Unique street and sport bikes / To me they are mean green machines

Suzuki = sport bikes great big cc bikes / reliable and conservative

Honda = great cruisers / reliable / unique ideas

Yamaha = sexy looks / fancy cruisers

Harleys = cruisers / simple

something like that but you can say what ever you really want. I tried to make it as open as possible.

My brand of bike I currenlty ride is a Harley Davidson .....
what it represents to me is reaching a childhood goal
although I stopped short of the 1% prison career .... but did flirt highly with it when I was younger and returned back to my home town .... but riding to Daytona on a Sportster and hitting all of the leather shops and bike shops is alot of fun for me and I wouldn't get the same feeling of satisfaction on a Harley "look a like cruiser" ; and after actually demo riding
many bikes I know I made the right choice for my style of riding .... especially when I unexpectedly came upon a "ramp" at 50 mph and went over it and got about 4' of clearance and such an adrenaline rush that I have deliberatley rejumped it about 5 more times in the past year .... and the cruiser seat for my broken tail bone, the tool bags on the front forks, the mid pegs and thin fast bike ... just handles well for me,and I grew up on a small dirt bike in the woods and country roads and fields as a child and the 883L is much like my little 80cc Yamaha childhood motorcycle ....
If I were going to get a dirt bike I would probably get a Honda CRF 130 because I just have more fun on a smaller bike on trails and hill climbing than I do on a bigger bike ..... and that is the only one I have really considered purchasing ...
as far as a Sport Bike the only one I have ridden is a 2007 VRod and I LOVED it .... my brother told me I should try a Triumph Speed Triple ..... I honestly REALLY want to go ride some Sport Bikes to compare because the VRod really did remind me of riding dirt bikes ....... but maybe I have too much of a wild side to me so it may be that I need to just putt around on my little Sprtster at 90 mph .......
but hey ....... I ain't real picky .... let's ride ........

After 45 years of riding I am comfortable with a cruiser now. And my current cruiser isn't one of the top 4 Japanese bikes or a European, Russian or Chinese bike. It's not a Harley either. No, I went with a Korean bike this time. Why? Because it was affordable, felt good to sit on and is quality built. It's not a beef eater but it eats up a lot of road when I get the hankering to go somewhere. It's a Hyosung (yo-sung) GV250 Aquila. In a couple of years (2009) I'm going to trade up to a GV650 Cruiser.
Don't frown on me now. I like my Honda's, Kawasaki's, Suzuki's and Yamaha's. Why, I even liked my Harley's. But for now, I like my Hyosung.

I'll try to answer your question. Right now I have a brand new Yamaha R6. One of the main reasons I bought it was because I love the way it looks. I love the lines, the color, and the aggressive stance. Even before I learned how to ride a motorcycle, I always wanted a Yamaha because I love they way they look. They are just plain sexy!

For me it has to be KAWASAKI,I own a ZX6-R(1wk and 108miles old). The roar from the air box and the intake sounds like it would suck your shirt in.I've loved KAWASAKI's from i was a kid.I also have two NC30's and a GILERA GFR125.To me KAWASAKI represent no nonsense pure sports bikes that are beautiful to look at and ride.No gimmicky rider aids, only the ingredients for hard riding, and the colour green, mine is orange though.

The question(s) you are asking are not ones that are easy to answer.

For example, bikes differ from year to year. Last year's best dirtbike brand, may be this year's bomb.

You would probably get better answers if you asked each question separately.

Maybe ask something like, "If you were going to buy a sportbike, what brand would you buy and why?"

The name Honda brings to mind reliability and variety. Over the years they have made all styles of bikes.

The name Harley Davidson brings a mixed bag.
There is the desire since childhood. (good)
The simplicity that once came to mind no longer exists. (bad)

I can't pick a favorite, mine were all a little different, yet I enjoyed them all.

Favorites? There are too many to pick just one! I'm going with a '65 panhead for sentimental reasons.
