Well, there's a lot of information to be had so it's hard to know what to tell you to help you out.

You can start by visiting these websites as they have medically accurate, unbiased information:
http://www.pregnancyoptions.info/pregnant.htm
http://www.pregnancyoptions.info/whichmethod.htm
http://www.acog.org/departments/dept_notice.cfm?recno=18&bulletin=4157
http://www.apa.org/ppo/pi/factsheet1.html

And for the more political:
http://www.prochoice.org/

If you have some specific questions, I'd be happy to help, just let me know.

Peace,
Jenn

PS. After reading some of the other responses, I feel compelled to add more information. Depending on the gestational age of the pregnancy, an abortion can be performed through two methods within the first trimester (which is when over 90% of all abortions occur). Usually before 8 weeks, a medical abortion can be attained. This method utilizes medication which will stop the flow of nutrients to the pregnancy and then cause contractions to expel the tissue. Some Women prefer this method, others don't. The contractions can be mild to moderate and most Women report that they feel like a bad period. The other method available from 8-12 weeks, and the most common method, is a dilation and evacuation. During this procedure, the cervix will be dilated using either an injection, metal rods, or seaweed (depending on the clinic). After dilation, a vacuum tube is inserted into the uterus and suction is applied. The suction is strong enough to pull the pregnancy from the uterus. Most Women who obtain abortions have this type of abortion. You can have either a local or twilight anesthesia and I recommend the twilight.

If you have any other questions, let me know.

Abortions are relatively painless. The only discomfort is the dilation of the cervix. It can be done under local anesthetics or a general anesthetic. Usually a suction device is used which pulls anything contained inside the uterus out quickly and painlessly. If the woman decides the abortion was a mistake, she can get pregnant the next month or two again.
It is hysterical to call it 'murder'. The embryo and the organism is a complete parasite until it can 'live' on its own. Probably after 6+ months. Most abortions are done in the first 3 months. It is absolutely right that the woman can decide to carry the pregnancy or abort it as she feels is best for her life. After all she must devote the rest of her life to this little parasite. A pregnancy is no small matter. It deranges the womans body permanently. She gets stretched all to h*** and back. Her life is altered for her whole lifetime.
If it is an unwanted pregnancy, it is better to get rid of the embryo before it grows out of control.
Interestingly, the crime rate in the USA declined dramatically and steadily 14 years after abortions were made legal. These unwanted and uncared for children were causing the crime rate to worsen. These mothers were not prepared to devote the necessary time to teaching the children to behave and grow into their proper places in society.
The anti-abortion crowd seem to disappear when raising the child becomes a reality.
I have talked to many a parent and had them say, Jesus, why did I not abort this rotten kid.

Abortion is simply the early removal of a fetus from the mother's womb. The logistics vary depending on how far towards birth the unborn child has advanced, but it always results in the death of the child. In early stages it is possible to go in vaginally and "vacuum" the child out. In the latest stages the child will be allowed to come through the birth canal, and it's throat will be cut before it makes it the last few inches through the canal. If the child is close enough to birth that it starts to breathe or cry, I have heard that doctors will inject alcohol into the infant's brain to ensure that it is dead. Often there is guilt from one or both parents over the death of their child.

There are basically three types:

-Early chemical abortions with pills
-Surgical abortions later in pregnancy where the baby is chopped into pieces and sucked out via vacuum aspiration
-Partial Birth abortion where the full term baby's head is delivered, the skull pierced with scissors and the brain removed so the head collapses

All three are barbaric, inhuman and immoral. I pray you are simply on a fact-finding mission and not contemplating getting rid of your unborn child.

I think you would be better off doing a google search for abortion. Placing this in an area where most people are or trying to get pregnant is just asking for alot of negative and useful responses.
The only information I can give you is to be 100% sure of your decision or you will come to regret it later in life. You need to know that it is the right decision for you... if you have ANY doubt whatsoever then don't do it.

EDIT??? I meant useless not useful... oops

go to a local planned parenthood to get checked out and see how far your pregnancy is.getting an abortion cost $$$$ almost up to 1000. but if you dont have medical, you would have to fill out a bunch of paper work and if you qualify, theyll do your abortion with no cost.usually when you go in,they want you to come with a partner.doesnt have to be the person you slept with but someone who can take you there and back cuz the abortion process takes a few hours and can leave you with pain.you wouldnt be able to drive or walk for a lil while.they have diffrent types of abortion.they have surgical abortion.and medicated abortion. they recommend surgical abortion.it lasts about 10.they use a machine to suck the embryo out of your system and terminate the pregnancy.medical abortion is diffrent.they subscribe you pills to take to terminate your pregnancy.it takes about a week or so.after the abortion, they sit down with you and goes through a list of birth controls to take home with you.then theyll tell you to come for a check up a month later to make sure your body is ok.they do give you medication to take for the time being.

personally i don't believe in abortion it is the wrong thing to do but it is your body and you can do what you want with it!! as far as details about abortion the only thing i know is that they kinda vacum out the "fetus" or if your further along like 4-5 months they cut it up than vacum it out! or they give this pill before the abortion like the night before and that kills your baby than they vacum it out!

Its a very painful procedure, depending on the age of the baby, it can vary, they go in vaginally, and open you up with the speculum, they give you a shot that stimulates the uterus to start contractions, they start to cut the baby out, and then vacumm everything out. some places offer a non surgical option which uses pills to terminate the pregnancy.

I went to a clinic with my ex g/f's mother. I can't explain the feeling except it felt like a funeral home. I'm all about choice, but it was a weird feeling being there.
