Chances are you don't want to install 64 bit vista. You will not be able to find drivers for most devices and if there are any 16 bit applications you use, you will not be able to run them.. (16 bit applications = mostly windows 3.11/DOS applications, and some windows 95/98/ME applications, most current applications are 32 bit) The only reason to even consider using 64 bit vista is if you are doing very complex mathematical equations.

According to Microsoft you can order a 64 bit cd for a minimal fee plus shipping and handling. The order page is included in the links below. From what I have read you will most likely have to do a complete reinstall.

I have Windows XP 32-bit and I have Vista 64 on an AMD 6000+ running at 3Ghz with 2 Gb ram.
Quite frankly the Vista OS takes about 3 times longer to boot than Windows XP, and my main application which is video rendering takes 3 times longer on Vista than on 32-bit Windows XP. I am about to increase the memory to 4Gb, but unless there is significant improvement in performance I will be reverting to Windows XP. Contrary to your other responder about 90% of my 16-bit applications seem to run in Vista. I have found that it is only where hardware is involved (sound cards, web cams etc, that seperate 64 bit drivers are needed).
Some older applications do through up the odd error message, but it does not seem to prevent them working.

you don't say what O/S your currently running. also your running a dual core cpu? if its xp and and an amd dual core, try this...

AMD Dual-Core Optimizer =)

will speed up xp... as for 32/64 bit version.. I thought I'd prefer the 64 bit one BUT they take a lot longer to update drivers + software, as the user base is still bigger with 32 bit OS..

64 bit is more designed for high end task, I mean have you got a rendering farm etc.

I have the 64 bit version on linux installed though =)

on the windows experience thing, my pc is rated at 4.5 , the top mark is 5.0. considering its a mid range machine I was happy with that score..

Why ?

Yes == the 64 bit version runs slower ... (assuming you can get it to run at all)
