After a medical examination, your doctor calls and says you have a rare cancer and only have a few months to live. Five days later he calls back and informs you the lab had mislabeled the tests and you are fine. For a moment you have faced death in the face, and surely gained some major insights about yourself. Only if you apply the insights into your world view and how you live your life. To forget them would be to take for granted the value of life.

I would imagine all I would focus on is the absolute joy of knowing the test were wrong. I don't know if in only 5 days, I would have the capability of digesting the bad news, and really start a plan on all I would want to do in my remaining time. I imagine that short time period would be filled with overwhelming sadness, depression aand anxiety, which wouldn't give me he time I need to really accept the reality of what my plans would be for the time I had left.
Interesting scenario!

I had something like that happen before.... well not exactly.. just a wakeup call...
I had a vivid dream a while back that I had died of an overdose and I was looking over my dead body, and someone appeared by me and said look what you've done to yourself and now it's too late to go back. I woke up drenched in sweat and swore off pills. I've been clean for nearly a year and find myself much more happier. I have that dream to thank.

All such experiences (facing impending death) can alter many perceptions ,ideas and even sense of values. How do such rethinking helps or works in real time life, would depend a lot from person to person.

I am sure my first reaction would be great joy, but it would soon be replaced with anger.
For a fact the Lab, would be in a great deal of legal trouble.
The settlement would of course give me a great deal of joy, my financial security would be assured.
I hope my answer will be viewed in a humorous vain.

Yes. I have suffered from some serious panic attacks and was convinced at the time that I was going to die. My life has improved so much. I quit smoking. I started doing karate and I decided to go back to school.
