There is no excuse for a religious organization of any kind promoting hate of any kind.
- in short, it's whacked....

I am a Christian. I grew up a missionary kid. I never knew there were Christians like this in the world until I came here to the States.
What I think is that these people make me tremendously sad, both for the vileness of their spirits and for the negative reflection they cast on my faith.
Most people in the know refer to them as the Westboro Baptist Cult. I hereby motion to permanently ban any and all references to these poor people as Christians.
Christianity is still what it has always been about: love and freedom. Anyone who reads the Bible and finds a message of hatred is insane.
The only good news in all this is that historically, psychotic cults driven by egomaniacs pretending to speak for God end badly and spectacularly. I think they're about due...

About a year ago, heard a radio interview with Fred's daughter. It was very disturbing to hear some of the beliefs that the members of this organisation have. She said that she's a member of a Baptist Church, but proceeded to say nothing but hateful things, about everyone in general.

The most intelligent answer I can think of is they are scum of the earth.
With the right of free speech also comes responsibility and I honestly know in my heart if any one of the Founders of this country were alive and saw this behavior they would at the very least tar and feather every one of them and anyone that object to it. If they didn't kill them in a duel. Remember those guys actually believed in honor.
They pledged their Lives Wealth and Sacred Honor to bring this country into existence.

I am a Christian.
My heart is absolutely sickened by seeing these things. How many have made the suffering of losing loved ones made worse by the actions of these people?
My Savior's heart is broken by the actions of these people. They claim exclusive knowledge of what God loves and hates. I presume they think they are the only thing that God loves, since they are in America, and they say God hates America.
They must believe that they are righteous in God's eyes, but that's not right.
Isaiah 64:6
"and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;"
All of us are sinners in need of a Savior.
Romans 3:23
"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God..."
In no way do they have an exclusive hold on what God loves or hates. He loves all people. He cannot tolerate sin. That's why He sent His son to die on the cross for us...He paid the penalty for us.
Now His arms are open wide to all who will accept Him as Savior and Lord.
That is quite a difference from the judgmental god that these people portray.
God's wrath will be poured out in the end days on the earth, but America will not be a "focus" of God's wrath or anything like that.
Those who accept Him as Savior will be spared from His wrath and His judgment.
Even if this church had the message right, their way of conveying it does not **at all** reflect the love of Christ. Jesus would never condemn someone at a funeral! In fact, He would having a loving heart for the grieving.

Hopefully, they'll keep getting law suits filed against them to the point where they won't have either the funds to travel or a place to stay. They are a hideous excuse for a church and a pox on religions everywhere.

There is no intelligent answer explaining the behavior of these people.
They protested a funeral near my home and I was asked by the Sheriff to leave town so that I would not get in trouble.
The Sheriff is a good friend of mine, he was right, I would have started trouble with that bunch of slime.

they, like everyone else, have the right to say whatever totally insane and crazy things that pop into their heads...
but, I still reserve the right to call them crazy and insane...
but hey, it's a free country... they are free to be crazy, as long as they are following all the other laws...
I don't like the protesting at funerals... but, as long as they follow the laws for protests (which I'm not sure they have exactly all the time)... again, what can you do...
you can't change the fundamentals of the Constitution just because you're offended...

I think that Fred Phelps is trying to get himself killed-truly. I am not sure what happened to the man, but something went wrong with the old noggin.
