The South Pole and the North Pole are equadistant from the equator.
The Arctic Circle and the Antartic Circle are equadistant from the equator.

New York City is on the same latitude as Naples, Italy.

there can be no doubt that it is the Artic Circle that is closer.

Equator is at 0 degrees
North Pole = 90degrees North
South Pole = 90degrees South
Artic Ciricle = 66° 33′ 39″North

In sheer geometric terms it is obvious that the Artic Circle is over 23 degrees closer. The degree of inclination of the sun.
45 degrees north is in Northern Vermont, which is half way. No other answer is possible.

In terms of miles - a degree of latitude is almost 111.3195 km --- therefore we can conclude
Equator to SP = 10018.8 km
Equator to Artic Circle = 7384.23 km
Thus the Artic Circle is = 2634.57 km closer than the South Pole.

The Arctic circle is near the north pole. If you are talking about traversable distance, it is closer to the equator (and on the other side of the world from Antartica and the south pole).

Almost all of the warmth on the surface of the earth comes form the sun's warming. (A little bit form volcanoes but it's not significant.) The earth axis is tilled by about 23.5 degrees. (I'm just going to use the north pole because it's easier to pick one pole to make the explanation shorter.) After you do a some math you see that the sun never gets full overhead above the a latitude of 23.5 degrees called the tropic of cancer. When the sun is directly over your head it is going through the shortest path in the atmosphere. The longer distance the light from the sun travels through the earth's atmosphere the more it is diminished. And the less energy reaches the earths surface to warm it. It's not only warm in the summer because the sun is up longer. But it is also higher in the sky so more energy reaches the earths surface. Since the sun does not reach as high an azimuth at high latitudes on the globe they get less warmth and are cooler on average over a year.

THE EQUATOR OR IF YOU ARE ACTUALLY REFERRING TO THE ANTARCTIC CIRCLE THEN THE SOUTH POLE.
