I have a USB harddrive that I back up to and if you have to reformat your internal harddrive or replace it you have lost nothing ~~

You will have to re-install the OS on the new drive after it has been properly attached inside your pc.

Then you will transfer your personal files to the new hard drive and set up the programs you like to use.

You can make your new hard drive the second hard drive (Slave) first to your old hard drive. Install the OS to your new hard drive. Then copy all of the data files to your new hard drive then replace your old with new hard drive.

you will loose it, unless you can clone it. take it to a local tech, but it may be your mother board. if you take it to someone, might as well, install a slave drive too.
