Mars Bonfire is credited as the writer of "Born To Be Wild". Is this his real name or an alias?

If it is an alias,what is his real name? Which band could he have played with and what instrument did he play?

It was an alias. His name was actually Dennis Edmonton, and he was the older brother of Steppenwolf's drummer, Jerry Edmonton. He had been a guitarist with the group in its earlier incarnation as The Sparrow but he quit to concentrate on songwriting.

It was an alias, his real name was Dennis ..... ugh, forgot his last name, Edmond (sp?)... something like that. Band was The Sparrow, I think he was the guitarist?
