That would be the original boss,Lt. Colonel Henry Blake, played perfectly by McLean Stevenson. He was "one of the boys" who understood the absurdity of war as well as trapper or hawk-eye.the episode where he flys away is one of saddest in tv history.

I thought Frank Burns was the funniest, although I don't think we would be best friends. FWIW Henry Blake went to my undergraduate alma mater, in some episodes he wears a University of Illinois sweater. Father Francis Mulch went to my grad school Alma mater. In at least one episode he wears a Loyola sweatshirt.
HA HA I just notivced that spell check lopped off the end of Mulchahy!

One of my favorites would be Klinger. Most likely because he spent so much time trying to get out of Korea and ended up falling in love with a Korean lady and dedided to stay when the war was over.

Gotta love Klinger! He will possibly no longer have had great legs, yet his style in dresses became outstanding! (And, he had an marvelous heart - case in point - how he desperate, on the top of the conflict, to no longer bypass away Korea by way of fact his new bride wanted to locate her kinfolk.)

I liked Colonel Potter. Charles Winchester the 3rd was also cool, in my opinion.
