There is a difference between qualified and electable. While the Constitution did not expressly limit voting to men, most state laws did. As such, a female could not have been elected. I am not sure if Dolly Madison was qualified. I would say that Abigail Adams would have made a good president.

No,the Constitution requires the president to be a male citizen born in this country,not a former citizen of a foreign country.And she came at a time when Gender bias was at it's peak.Most early presidents were Lawyers or Generals,she was neither.She enjoyed acting as hostess at the White House after her husband;James Madison died.
