First, you convert the negative notation into i's. I usually place them in front of the square root. i is an imaginary number. So you get i times the square root of 3 that times i times the square root of 27. Then, to figure out if it's negative or not, just do i times i equals i squared, which is -1, so this is negative. Then, you can time the stuff inside the square roots together. So, you should have negative square root of 81. I hope you know what is the sqaure of 81 is, if you don't it's 9.

So you answer should be -9.

B u break down sqr 27 into sqr 3 and sqr 9 and the 9 breaks down into 3 so ur left with sqr 3 and sqr 3 both with negs or i's same thing, and u mult both sqr's breaking the sqr, so ur left with 3x3 and since 2 negs cancel ur left with pos.

9. But problem seems wrong. I know you can't compute for the square root of a negative number. But either way, it's still positive 9.

b and a are correct.

a negative multiplied by a negative is a positive. So, the answers with i in them are eliminated. The question is a poor one. It is likely that your teacher made a mistake unless there is something else you aren't telling us.

the square root function allows two solutions
so both a and b are correct

sqrt(-3)*sqrt(-27) = sqrt(-3*-27) = sqrt(81)=+/-9
or you can do it this way
isqrt(3)*isqrt(27) = -sqrt(81) = -/+ 9

b. 9
V(-3)*V(-27)
= V(81)
= 9

(the V's are the square root symbol)

none of those answers are correct. im taking calculus at uci. the answer is 3i^2 square root 3

(3 i squared, square root 3)

it is d
because when u type first one with -3 it gives u 1.732.....i and second one it gives u 5.196.....i and when u multiply them together u will get the number 8.999....i which is rounded off to 9i

my best guess would be d, but see what everyone else says
that's a toughy
